The Titas Gas Leakage Reduction Project

This project aims to reduce gas leakages from Greater Dhaka, Bangladesh’s natural gas distribution system. Since its construction in the 1960s, the distribution system has been poorly maintained. As a result, significant amounts of natural gas, predominantly methane, leak from components in the system, which are then released into the atmosphere. By implementing advanced leak detection and repair procedures, this project is estimated to generate annual GHG emission reductions of over 4 million tCO₂e. This project was previously registered under CDM, and this rating considers only the credits transferred to Verra. The Titas Gas Project reduced gas leakages from components within the natural gas distribution system in Greater Dhaka and adjacent areas in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
