Genesys Elevates Sustainability at Xperience 2026

Genesys has consistently shown a strong commitment to more sustainable business practices, and its approach to addressing carbon emissions associated with Xperience was no different.
For the fourth year in a row, Genesys has collaborated with Rubicon Carbon to assess the event’s footprint, minimize emissions, offset the remainder, and support communities.
Genesys addressed unavoidable emissions from areas such as attendee travel, lodging, and energy usage, amongst others, by purchasing a portfolio of high-quality projects.

As a result, the emissions offsets help support leading nature-based and super pollutant eliminations solutions such as the Sumatra Merang Peatland Project in Indonesia, The Conservations Fund’s Hodag Forest Project in Wisconsin, and the Bakhrabad Gas Leakage Reduction project in Bangladesh all of which you can read about more below.

How we calculated the impact of offsetting emissions from this event

Travel

Travel accounted for the majority of Xperience's carbon footprint, with air travel representing approximately 87% of total event emissions.

Wynn Las Vegas sits roughly four miles from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), helping minimize ground-transportation emissions for arriving attendees, and the resort offers on-site EV charging to support lower-emissions travel to and from the property.

Lodging

The choice of hotels makes a difference. Hotel stays represented approximately 8% of total event emissions.

Genesys hosted Xperience entirely at Wynn Las Vegas, consolidating all attendee room nights at a single property rather than spreading stays across multiple hotels. Wynn Las Vegas incorporates low-flow, water-conservation technology in showers, sinks, toilets, and dishwashers, and reduced its water consumption by 2% compared to 2019 despite increased occupancy.

Lodging-related emissions were mitigated through the retirement of carbon offsets, avoiding emissions equivalent to 26,668 gallons of gasoline consumed.

Catering

Catering represented approximately 3% of total event emissions.

Wynn Las Vegas' sustainable banquet program uses washable metal, glass, resin, and ceramic cutlery and flatware at buffets, serves water in aluminum bottles through a B Corp partnership and soft drinks in aluminum cans and glass bottles, and follows conservative buffet-replenishing practices paired with on-site composting of kitchen prep and plate waste.

Catering-related emissions were mitigated through carbon offsets, equivalent to 4,364 propane cylinders used for home barbecues.

Venue Energy

Venue energy use represented approximately 2% of total event emissions.

Wynn Las Vegas has been recognized with the Green Building Initiative's Four Green Globe Distinction, with its Convention Center Expansion separately earning a Three Green Globe Distinction. The resort's energy-efficiency measures include HVAC systems that power down during low- or no-use periods, LED lighting that exceeds industry standards, automated building-management systems, and energy submetering to monitor performance. In 2024, 33% of the electricity used at Wynn Las Vegas came from renewable sources.

Energy-related emissions were mitigated through carbon offsets, equivalent to charging more than 4.2 million smartphones.

Materials

Conference “swag” can contribute to many avoidable emissions associated with hosting in-person events.

As in past years, Genesys has committed to not utilizing registration “swag” to reduce these emissions. Event materials and infrastructure were sourced with Wynn Las Vegas' Goldleaf sustainability program in mind, which guides responsible sourcing and materials handling across the resort.

Attendee badges were recycled through a partnership, diverting badge materials from landfill at the close of the event.

Waste

Waste was the smallest contributor to emissions but it was still important to capture. Waste accounted for less than 1% of total event emissions.

Wynn Las Vegas diverted 49% of resort waste from landfills in 2025 through composting, recycling, and reuse programs, including food donation to local community organizations.

Projects Supported

Hodag Forest Project (HFP):

The Hodag Forest Project protects Pelican River Forest, the largest privately owned unprotected block of forest remaining in Wisconsin, spanning tens of thousands of acres of northern hardwoods along the Continental Divide in the United States.

This forested landscape is a haven for iconic wildlife such as wolves, black bears, and bald eagles, and its streams and wetlands help filter more than 60 billion gallons of precipitation each year, safeguarding clean water for communities across the upper Great Lakes and Mississippi River watersheds.

By permanently conserving this land rather than allowing it to be sold off and developed, the project supports 775 forest-related jobs and keeps the region's timber economy intact, while opening the forest to year-round public recreation, including hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.

Pelican River Forest stores roughly 19 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, comparable to a year's emissions from 4.1 million passenger vehicles. Its protection makes a meaningful contribution to climate change mitigation.

Bakhrabad Gas Leakage Reduction:

Millions of homes, businesses, and factories across Bangladesh rely on natural gas, but much of the country's distribution network was built in the 1960s and has grown old and worn, leaking methane — a greenhouse gas far more potent than carbon dioxide — into the atmosphere.

This project employs trained local technicians to identify and permanently seal methane leaks across the Bakhrabad gas network, extending the life of aging infrastructure while keeping more energy in the pipes and out of the air.

Because leaks are often most common in under-resourced communities that have gone the longest without repairs, the project's benefits reach some of the areas that need them most, improving safety and reliability for families who depend on that gas to cook and heat their homes.

By reducing reliance on costly imported natural gas and creating skilled local jobs in leak detection and repair, the project delivers an immediate climate benefit alongside real economic and safety benefits for Bangladeshi communities.

Sumatra Merang Peatland:

The Sumatra Merang Peatland Project protects and restores nearly 23,000 hectares of carbon-rich peatland rainforest in South Sumatra, Indonesia, an area otherwise slated for conversion to commercial plantation. By rewetting dried peat through more than 200 compaction dams and conducting active forest patrols and assisted natural regeneration, the project prevents the large-scale release of carbon stored in the peat dome beneath the forest floor while guarding against fire, one of the greatest risks to peatland ecosystems.

The forest is home to 29 endangered, critically endangered, and vulnerable species, including the Sumatran tiger and sun bear, and functions as a critical refuge as surrounding lowland forest continues to be lost to logging and palm oil production.

Nearby village communities have benefited from increased employment, rain-catchment installations, and university scholarships funded through the project, building durable local support for its long-term protection.
